Shots, Shots, Shots, Shots, Shots, Shots, Shots, Shots, Shots, Shots, Shots...

DO NOT LET THE SHOTS STOP YOU! THE TRIP AN PROTECTION YOU'LL RECEIVE WILL BE SWEETER THAN THE PAIN!

I knew that I would need vaccinations for my trip to Africa, but I did not expect to need 11 shots total!
And that is not including the live oral Typhoid vaccination which comes in an easy to swallow gel capsule, the Malaria medicine, and diarrhea medication.

Other factors that pushed the amount of vaccinations needed to travel to Cameroon was the fact that many shots I had as a child required an "Adult Booster." For instance, the Polio shot, which was a series of four shots in 1976 when I was born required one booster shot. I also needed the H1N1 shot which was not recommended before the outbreak we experienced last year.

Next, I will provide a list of vaccinations I needed to give you an idea of what to expect. However, you may need more vaccinations for each person is different, so consult your local Travel Clinic. The prices for Travel Clinic visits and medication varies greatly. The Duke Travel Clinic's visit started at $250, not including shots! Where as the Concentra Travel Clinic visit was $40 or your health insurance co-pay (those vary). What also amazed me were the varying prices of the vaccinations. One vaccination was $56 at Concentra and $115 at another travel CLinic. Same vaccination, HUGE price difference. It is worth doing your homework to save.

I will talk about the process of obtaining your Visa fro Cameroon in my post!
